masked,

we filter

the fearful

unwelcome air,

as we live

and breathe

disguised –

we conceal the smile

that is no longer there,

the corners of our mouths

a downturned reflection

of a memory,

hiding the sadness

that lingers

and drags

the downcast

deeper,

until buried,

we forget
